The Bishops’ Conference of the Nordic Countries (known as the Scandinavian Bishops’ Conference) is the body for collaboration between the Catholic Bishops of northern Europe (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland), aiming at achieving episcopal collegiality, that is, shared responsibility in the leadership of the Church, exercised by the Bishops in collaboration with the Holy Father, the head of the Church.

Currently, the Bishops’ Conference has eight members, representing the 7 dioceses and prelatures in Scandinavia. The particularity of the Bishops’ Conference of the Scandinavian countries lies in that it represents five countries, in which the Catholic Church is considered to be a minority.

The main decision-making body of the Bishops’ Conference is the General Assembly, which twice a year brings together all the bishops from different locations in Scandinavia, and, sometimes, from abroad.

As well as the meetings, the General Secretariat in Copenhagen aims to maintain close contact between the dioceses and co-ordinate activities.
